Parish Council Nominations
The Parish Council is already planning for our annual parish meeting on November 3rd. There is a lot of family business for us to cover, as well as much to celebrate and to prayerfully grow into as we mature as a parish that exists to serve the advancement of the gospel in Seattle and beyond.
At this meeting, we have four items that we will be covering:
We will present a review of the previous year
We will present the budget, in broad categories, for the coming year
We will cast vision for the coming year
We will present a slate of new Parish Council members to be elected by a simple majority of the voting members of the Church
To this last item, we will have two current council members rolling off (Todd Baty and Dave Bettis), and we will be electing two to three new members to the Parish Council for the first time.
Between now and November 3rd the Parish Council is working on selecting these new members but we want to hear from you about who you'd like to see on the Parish Council and you have until September 30th to get your nominations in. What are we looking for in a Parish Council member?
The requirements, as stated in our bylaws, are as follows:
Fulfills all qualifications of congregational membership and is confirmed or in the process of being confirmed in the Anglican Church of North America.
Gives 10% or more of income to Harbor Anglican and to the mission of the church worldwide.
Demonstrates gifts of spiritual leadership, wisdom, discernment, and maturity; and then lastly
Agrees to affirm, uphold, and live by the Parish Council Subscription.
“I do believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the Word of God and to contain all things necessary for life and salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ, and I do yield my hearty consent to the fundamental declarations set forth in Article I of the Constitution of the Diocese, and to the discipline and forms of worship of the Anglican Church in North America.”
What we are asking of you, Harbor Anglican, is to think about those qualifications and to begin praying and asking who might meet those within our parish. Very often, and obviously, all you can really detect of someone is qualification three—“demonstrates gifts of spiritual leadership, wisdom, discernment, and maturity.”
If someone in your mind meets qualification three but you aren’t sure about the other qualifications, we want you to actually engage and ask the person, “Hey, I am curious what you think about being a Parish Council member? I think you meet the third qualification, but what about the other qualifications?”
Ask them and invite them to pray and to get back to you, and if they are interested, email the Parish Council with this person’s name and copy them on the email and we will begin to engage them to determine if they are truly interested and they meet the qualifications.
Please note that the Parish Council reserves the right to determine the final slate nominees that will be presented at the annual parish meeting.
If you have someone to recommend for nomination, please email the current Parish Council at parish-council@harboranglican.org.
