FOLLOWING JESUS
Lifelong Believers, Skeptics & Everything in Between
We think Jesus is the most compelling person who ever lived, and we would love to walk with you wherever you are on your journey—be it a lifelong believer, returning to the faith, or skeptically curious. At Harbor, we seek to be a place for those who believe and for those who don’t know what to believe—a place of grace and truth for all because we believe God has good news for all. And this good news is right at the heart of who we are as a church. As such, we seek to make space for everyone, no matter background or struggles. Of course, this makes our church costly to be a part of. But it makes our church the one we all need—and those around you need. We would love to meet you wherever you are on your journey!

At Harbor, we welcome your questions and encourage curiosity. Your biggest and most important questions deserve to be explored, and we want to explore them with you.
There are three primary ways you can engage with the claims of Christianity at Harbor:Our Sunday worship service
Harbor Groups
One-on-one with our Rector
Our Sunday worship assumes not everyone believes in the truths of our faith. This is most notable during the time of the sermon where we always seek to engage people intellectually, emotionally, and culturally.
Our Harbor Groups are a second way you can engage the claims of Christianity, as we believe Christianity is relational and communal to the core. Part of knowing the power of Christianity is experiencing it in relationship with others around a meal.
Lastly, our rector is available to meet with you to talk about specifics. No questions are off-limits. We invite you to reach out to our rector who would love to go the extra mile with you around whatever it is you want to talk about.

If you are exploring what it means to follow Jesus for the first time, we would love to walk with you as a fellow pilgrim. The journey of following Christ is both full of joy and suffering. Therefore, we believe no one should try to be a Christian alone.
If you are seeking to become a follower of Jesus Christ and have never been baptized, it is important that you speak with our rector about preparing for baptism.
Baptism is a beautiful marker of one’s new life in Christ. It is God’s tangible gift to us where God’s Word of promise meets us in holy water, signifying the washing away all our sins through faith in Christ, adopting us as his sons and daughters, gifting us with the person of the Holy Spirit, and making us members of Christ’s church.
Our church would love to be your spiritual home and walk with you as you live out your baptism.
To grow in your new life in Christ, it is also vitally important for you to be involved in regular worship, Bible study, prayer, and Christian fellowship. -
The English writer, Julian Barnes, once wrote, “I don’t believe in God but I miss him.”
If that sentiment haunts you, you are not alone.
Many folks have rediscovered their faith at Harbor Anglican and have started to believe again or believe more deeply. Whatever the reason is for your time away from the Christian faith, we seek to make room for folks to reconstruct what they have deconstructed.
It is not only many of our stories, but it is also the story we find throughout Scripture. From St. Peter to the parable of the Prodigal Son we see Jesus not only welcomes us for the first time, but he welcomes us back after a long time away.
Today many men and women are re-exploring the faith of their former days and wondering if they can or if they want to return to the faith.
If you are a baptized and want to return to the church, we invite you to take your time with us and in time consider reaffirming your faith in the presence of a minister. Our rector is available to meet with you.
We also encourage you to consider visiting Harbor Anglican for at least five Sundays in a row to get a feel of who we truly are as a church.
You may also consider joining one of our Harbor Groups to get to know other followers of Jesus and be personally known more deeply.
In time we hope you rediscover your first love.

Anglicanism is a rich and deep tradition, and we are grateful you would take the time to learn more about it.
The first step in this process is understanding what C.S. Lewis writes in his introduction to his world-famous book, Mere Christianity: “it is in the rooms, not in the hall, that there are fires and chairs and meals. The hall is a place to wait in, a place from which to try the various doors, not a place to live in.”
Anglicanism, as Lewis wrote, is a unique room off a hallway with particular fires, chairs, and meals. The best way to learn more about our rich tradition, therefore, is by coming all the way into the room to experience our furniture and feasts.
One does this by literally coming to sit down at an actual feast we call the Holy Eucharist, which occurs every Sunday. Keeping this feast is at the heart of our who we are and shapes all that we do.
With this feast at the center, we learn to keep time differently, which is why we also follow a church calendar that orders our days, weeks, months, and years. This keeping of time differently expresses not just how we follow Jesus, but it expresses the One who truly stands at the center of all time and history. Anglicanism in this light is an entire way of life.
Our invitation to all who are interested in learning about our tradition is to simply “Come and see.” We also offer a set of classes each fall and spring that seeks to explain the finer print of our tradition. See below under Membership and Confirmation.

Welcome to Seattle!
Harbor Anglican is a part of the Anglican Church in North America and resides in the Diocese of the Rocky Mountains (DRM).
The DRM is a vibrant diocese that seeks to faithfully follow Jesus and proclaim the gospel of his kingdom to the people of Seattle and beyond.
While being Anglican does matter to us, Jesus and his kingdom matter more. If Jesus is at the center of your Anglicanism, we think you will find a home among us!
As Anglicans we are biblical, liturgical, sacramental, communal, and missional. We exist to be harbor of God’s kingdom that proclaims and demonstrates God’s grace to a wearied world.
Membership & Confirmation
Are you interested in going deeper with our community in a more intentional way? Each fall we offer two pathways for those who want to gain greater clarity on who we believe God is calling us to be and what it means to be an incarnational presence in our city.
Membership
The first pathway is for newcomers and/or those interested in membership. At Harbor Anglican, we are committed to a particular vision and set of values that point us in a specific direction on how to faithfully follow Christ and serve the world together in a context-specific way. If you are interested in joining a membership class, please email our rector, the Rev. Casey Bedell.
In the meantime, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the materials below which are foundational to our vision and values. Listen to Fr. Casey’s message on Grace & Community that speaks to the inherent difficulty of community, its supernatural design, and the communal disciplines we are learning to lean into at Harbor Anglican.
Finally, if you missed our recent Foundations Class, click the link below to listen.
Confirmation
The second path is confirmation, which expands the church beyond our local context and connects you to our bishop, diocese, and the Global Anglican Fellowship.
This commitment is Anglican-specific and explores what it means to be a follower of Christ in the Anglican way. Our bishop, Ken Ross, will often refer to confirmation as “lay ordination.”
Confirmation, in this sense, is about maturity and mission where through the laying on of the Bishop’s hands with prayer, you are strengthened by the Holy Spirit to live out the calling God has given you.
If interested in confirmation, we offer three classes each fall. Please email our rector, the Rev. Casey Bedell for more information.
